Session AS15: Middle Atmosphere Science
Conveners
Shigeo Yoden (Kyoto University, Japan)
Zeyu Chen (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China)
Hye-Yeong Chun (Yonsei University, Korea)
S. K. Dhaka (University of Delhi, India)
This session is part of an annual series at AOGS-AS meetings. Papers
related to any aspect of the dynamics, chemistry, or physics of the
atmosphere from near the tropopause to the lower thermosphere with time
scales from weather to climate are appropriate for this session.
Observation and data analysis, numerical experiments, and theoretical
studies on the middle atmosphere are all solicited. Research topics
include (but are not limited to):
- dynamics, transport and mixing in multiple spatial scales
- dynamics, radiation, microphysics, and chemistry in the tropical
tropopause layer (TTL) or the extratropical upper troposphere and lower
stratosphere (UTLS)
- vertical propagation of multi-scale and multi-type atmospheric waves
- intraseasonal and interannual variations in the middle atmosphere
- remote influences in the middle atmosphere, including
tropical/extratropical interactions, vertical couplings in the tropics
and polar regions
- middle atmosphere responses to anthropogenic climate change and
other external forcings such as 11-year solar variations
- middle atmosphere influences on long-term changes in both the
troposphere and upper atmosphere
We specially invite new results that will provide new insights into
the science of the middle atmosphere in a changing climate.
