University of Cambridge
Postdoctoral Research Associate in Atmospheric Dynamics -
Stratosphere-Troposphere Coupling and the Solar Cycle.
Research Associate - Salary: 24,161 - 31,525 pounds (Grade 7)
Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research
Associate to work on a project to investigate the dynamics of
coupling between stratosphere and troposphere and the implications
for the propagation of solar-cycle effects from stratosphere to
troposphere. Part of the work will be based on numerical
experiments using simplified global circulation models. The study
is part of a larger research programme into Solar Influences on
Climate being carried out by a consortium of five UK universities
and the British Antarctic Survey along with collaborators in the UK
Met Office and in institutions in Germany, Japan and the USA. The
whole programme is funded by NERC and the Research Associate will
be encouraged to interact with other researchers based elsewhere in
the consortium.
The project will be lead by Professor Peter Haynes in the
Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP)
and is part of a broader programme of atmospheric science research
being carried out at University of Cambridge in the Centre for
Atmospheric Science, a collaborative activity between DAMTP,
Department of Chemistry and Department of Geography. Informal
enquiries are welcome to phh at damtp.cam.ac.uk.
A PhD in atmospheric dynamics or a related discipline, is required.
Relevant experience of numerical modelling is highly desirable.
Applicants should send a full CV, including a list of publications
and a 1-page description of previous research experience, and
completed PD18 CV cover form (parts I and III only) including names
of two referees to:
Mrs Sue Eason,
DAMTP, Centre for Mathematical Sciences,
Wilberforce Road, Cambridge CB3 0WA, United Kingdom
or email (S.J.Eason at damtp.cam.ac.uk).
The closing date for applications is 5 January 2007. The
appointment will be for a period of up to three years, to start no
later than 1 June 2007, but a start date earlier than this will be
encouraged if agreeable.
