Session C23 Advances in Observations, Theory and Modeling Related to the 
Mechanisms of External Forcing on the Middle Atmosphere

Papers are invited for a session on observational, modelling and theoretical 
aspects of the middle atmosphere response to external forcing from space. These 
forcings include, but are not restricted to, energetic particle precipitation 
from solar or magnetospheric origin, solar electromagnetic (E-M) fluxes, cosmic 
rays and meteors. Contributions in the following areas are welcome: 1) 
Satellite and ground-based observations related to such forcings. 2) 
Observations of the impact of these forcings on the composition, chemistry and 
dynamics of the middle atmosphere and lower thermosphere and ionosphere. 3) 
Numerical and theoretical analyses of the middle atmosphere response to these 
forcings. 4) Coupling of high latitude response with low latitudes or the lower 
atmosphere. 5) Investigations of the effect on the atmospheric response to 
these forcings from climate change. Contributions using comprehensive general 
circulation models to investigate coupling between different atmospheric 
regions are encouraged.
