Products

In addition to conducting basic and applied research, NWRA scientists have developed and provide a wide range of products and services-- from oceanographic instrumentation and calibration to sea ice engineering to space weather-- which meet the needs of industry, government and other researchers.

www.planetargus.com Shoreline Monitoring Service - Video Metric Systems™ is a method of monitoring shoreline processes for coastal management and engineering.  An Argus Beach Monitoring Station (ABMS), combined with state-of-the-art digital video image processing and photogrammetric techniques, produces numeric and graphical data products. For information, please visit the Video Metric Systemsweb site. You may also contact Dr. Joan Oltman-Shay at (425) 644-9660 ext. 314; or send an e-mail to info@planetargus.com

Coherent Radio Receiving Coherent Radio Receiving System - NWRA has developed two radio receiving systems to measure the intensity of, and relative phase between, VHF and UHF signals broadcast from the "Transit" satellites of the U.S. Navy Navigation Satellite System. The data from these systems are used to investigate the transionospheric communication channel.

Laboratory Services Laboratory Services - NWRA has 2250 sq ft of fluid dynamics laboratory for simulating atmospheric and oceanographic physics and flow instrument calibrations. NWRA invites researchers into the laboratory for flow visualization or modeling fluid dynamic experiments. Multiple tanks and apparatus have been used for a wide range of research projects.

Sea Ice Engineering Sea Ice Engineering - Dr. Max Coon of NWRA, has provided ice loads on structures engineering design information for most of the major oil companies and structure design firms planning to build structures in ice covered seas. The sea ice basic and applied research activities at NWRA have kept him at the forefront of ice engineering design practices. For further information please contact Dr. Coon (phone: 425-644-9660 ext. 332; e-mail: max@nwra.com).

Ionospheric Effects Consulting Ionospheric Effects Consulting - The Earth's ionosphere can cause a wide range of undesirable effects on radio signals passing through it, including refraction, group delay, Doppler shift and spread, polarization rotation, and scintillation. NWRA has both the models and expertise to help in planning systems and operations to avoid or ameliorate these effects and to aide in assessing problems as they are encountered. Dr. Edward Fremouw, NWRA's Director, is a world-recognized expert in ionospheric scintillation, and Jim Secan, NWRA Senior Research Scientist, has worked ionospheric-effects issues for both the US Air Force and NWRA's customers for over 25 years. For further information please contact Jim Secan (phone: 520-319-7773; e-mail: jim@nwra-az.com). More information on NWRA scintillation services can be found in the scintillation predictions area of our site.

Software Development - As a part of its research activities, NWRA has developed a number of innovative and practical software solutions. This software expertise can be applied to meet the needs of industry and government.
