NSF VIGRE Program
- VIGRE gives students a greater appreciation for their mathematics degree by exposing them to careers for mathematically-trained scientists
- NWRA has award partnerships with the University of Washington departments of Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics
- Pascale Lelong has a student in the program
- NWRA is also in a participatory partnership with University of Colorado
NSF Award: Student field sea-ice experiment
- Math class from Nathan Hale High School (Seattle, WA) proposed experiments for an upcoming field ice program
- The best two proposals were "awarded" by NWRA
- Field data was collected in Spring 2007
- Award winners held summer intern positions at NWRA, analyzing the field data
- Making a Difference!
- Reported in an article written to The Science Teacher, "Arctic Research and Writing: A Lasting Legacy of the International Polar Year" by Englert, Coon, Hinckley, and Pruis
- All four students involved are now in science-degree programs
- This class did better than any previous or later class in the "Force Concept Inventory" test given at the end of each year
