Visitor: NWRA Welcomes Professor Jennifer Haase to the Boulder Office

July 2022

Professor Haase, from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, is an expert in Global Navigation Satellite System applications and is PI on a radio-occultation (ROC) temperature profiling instrument flying on tropical “Strateole-2” long duration super-pressure balloons that drift in the lower stratosphere.   She is in Boulder to develop a collaborative NSF proposal with Joan Alexander and Martina Bramberger for ROC measurements and wave and cirrus cloud analyses from multiple balloons in an upcoming 2024 field campaign.

Please welcome Jennifer!

Visitor: NWRA Welcomes Hamid Pahlavan, to the Boulder Office

July 2022

Hamid is a postdoc & Junior Fellow Rice Academy, Rice University.  He is a recent graduate of UW Atmospheric Sciences and will be jointly advised by Joan Alexander and Prof. Pedram Hassanzedeh of Rice University.  Hamid’s Ph.D. thesis focused on tropical stratospheric circulation & waves and their representation in global data from the ECMWF (European Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasting).  His postdoc work at NWRA is on a collaborative project with Rice colleagues, focusing on development of machine learning based methods of parameterization of gravity wave drag for climate models.

Please welcome Hamid!
