Visitor: NWRA Welcomes Professor Jennifer Haase to the Boulder Office

Professor Haase, from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, is an expert in Global Navigation Satellite System applications and is PI on a radio-occultation (ROC) temperature profiling instrument flying on tropical “Strateole-2” long duration super-pressure balloons that drift in the lower stratosphere. She is in Boulder to develop a collaborative NSF proposal with Joan Alexander and Martina Bramberger for ROC measurements and wave and cirrus cloud analyses from multiple balloons in an upcoming 2024 field campaign.

Visitor: NWRA Welcomes Hamid Pahlavan, to the Boulder Office

Hamid is a postdoc & Junior Fellow Rice Academy, Rice University. He is a recent graduate of UW Atmospheric Sciences and will be jointly advised by Joan Alexander and Prof. Pedram Hassanzedeh of Rice University. Hamid’s Ph.D. thesis focused on tropical stratospheric circulation & waves and their representation in global data from the ECMWF (European Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasting). His postdoc work at NWRA is on a collaborative project with Rice colleagues, focusing on development of machine learning based methods of parameterization of gravity wave drag for climate models.
