NWRA Welcomes Tim Janssen, Coastal Oceanographer

January 2015

Tim joins NWRA and opens the NWRA El Granada Lab. Tim is a field oceanographer with expertise in nonlinear surface ocean waves over topography. He most recently has been developing small, GPS-tracking Lagrangian wave resolving drifters to observe the interaction of waves and strong tidal currents at the mouth of rivers (e.g., Columbia River). Tim received his PhD from Delft University in 2006.

Welcome Tim!

NWRA Welcomes Tom Herbers, Coastal Oceanographer

January 2015

Tom is a field oceanographer studying ocean surface waves, wave evolution across the continental shelf, and wave-induced nearshore processes. His work has shown that small-scale seafloor ripples on the continental shelf can cause strong attenuation of ocean swell, and that the nonlinear excitation of infragravity waves play an important role in beach erosion. Tom received his PhD from Scripps Oceanography in 1990 and is Professor Emeritus at the Naval Postgraduate School. Tom will be working from his Monterey office and the El Granada Lab.

Welcome Tom!
