Accolade: Jonathan Lilly produces major analysis tool, The Continuous Wavelet Transform

October 2016

As of last week, the de facto standard version of a major analysis tool used by scientists and engineers, the continuous wavelet transform, is now based on work done by Jonathan together with collaborator Sofia Olhede.

You can read about Matlab's completely rewritten CWT routine in their 2016b release here: http://www.mathworks.com/help/wavelet/ref/cwt.html?searchHighlight=cwt

However, if you don't want to pay $1000 for Matlab's wavelet toolbox for some reason, you can continue using Jonathan's version for $0.

Congratulations Jonathan!

Accolade: Jim Secan, Dennis Knepp, and NWRA Received a Thank-You from the European Space Agency

May 2016

Jim Secan, Dennis Knepp, and NWRA received a thank-you letter from Dr. Maurice Borgeaud, the Head of Earth Observation Science, Applications, and Future Technologies Department of the European Space Agency, for their use of the model, WBMOD, which was developed over 40 years ago by NWRA scientists to study ionospheric scintillation.

NWRA made this model freely available to the scientific world shortly after it was developed.Dr. Borgeaud wrote in his letter how WBMOD was a powerful tool used by scientists at the University of Sheffield for the Biomass 7th Earth Explorer mission that allowed them to manage the effects of ionospheric scintillation and obtain the highest of data quality.

Dr. Borgeaud wrote,“…I would like to express the thanks of the Agency for making WBMOD available to our supporting scientists ….It has proved an invaluable resource for us and remains a key factor in preparing for the success of the mission.”

Congratulations Jim, Dennis and NWRA!
